The cabin air filter is designed to remove airborne pollens, bacteria, dust, exhaust fumes, smog, spores, soot, and tire particles by filtering them out before they enter the vehicle cabin compartment. Its filter elements are made of polypropylene or polyurethane polymers with a fiber adhesive. Most are sold in a plastic frame, although some are availableas soft media packs without housing. Each filter holds a cartridge that contains an active ingredient that destroys microorganisms. Generally, cabin air filters have a useful service life of about one year, or 15,000 miles before needing replacement.
